(MENAFN - Gulf Times) Under the theme of 'Race to All That Is Good', Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS) has inaugurated its 19th annual Ramadan campaign for the year 1442 AH. The new drive involves numerous humanitarian projects for 2,540,601 people in Qatar and 21 other countries, QRCS has said in a statement. To be done in co-ordination with QRCS's foreign representation missions/offices and fellow national societies, these operations include Ramadan Iftar, Eid Clothing, ZakatFitr and diverse relief and development projects during and after the holy month of Ramadan. The launch was announced by Sheikh Abdullah bin Thamer al-Thani, president of QRCS. 'Ramadan is the month of blessing, when the believers do their best in worship, the benevolent people pay for charity, and those in need find support, said Sheikh Abdullah. 'It is the time for QRCS to launch its Ramadan campaign for 1442 AH, under which many charitable projects will be implemented for the poor in many countries." Ali bin Hassan al-Hammadi, secretary-general of QRCS, said: 'With your generous donations, we will be able to provide food and clothing for 405,434 beneficiaries, including 61,865 in Qatar and 343,569 out of Qatar. There will be Ramadan Iftar, ZakatFitr and Eid Clothing projects. Hasten to good deeds and enjoy the spirituality of giving in the holy month of Ramadan. Let the angels pray, ‘O Allah, give him more who spends money for charity'." After Ramadan, there will be another bunch of multi-sector projects, including 30 local social assistance and development projects for the benefit of 53,414 people at a cost of QR21,102,040, and 68 foreign projects worth QR95,060,718 in total, reaching out to 2,081,753 refugees, displaced people and vulnerable groups in the target countries. 'Last year, our Ramadan campaign raised QR55mn, which were used in humanitarian operations that served more than 1mn beneficiaries in 23 countries, al-Hammadi explained. 'These countries are Qatar, Palestine, Yemen, Sudan, Kyrgyzstan, Kosovo, Mali, Sri Lanka, Afghanistan, Somalia, Bangladesh, Syria, Lebanon, Jordan, Senegal, Albania, Iraq, Ethiopia, Pakistan, Turkey, Mauritania, Nepal and the Philippines." During Ramadan 1441 AH alone, QRCS distributed 51,123 food parcels to 253,615 beneficiaries in 14 countries. 'Towards the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the United Nations, QRCS launched far-reaching development projects. These focused on addressing poverty and hunger, deploying medical convoys, digging water wells, establishing sewage systems, ensuring food security and livelihoods, providing shelter, distributing food parcels, supporting education and responding to the Covid-19 pandemic, al-Hammadi said. Mohamed Rashid al-Marri, chairman of the Ramadan 1441 AH Campaign Management Committee and director of Communication and Public Relations at QRCS, said the drive was largely online, in compliance with the applicable preventive measures. 'There are available brochures introducing the public to our project portfolio, allowing them to share our humanitarian responsibility for easing the pains of those in distress, by donating to this noble endeavour. We ask Allah to give us success in doing our job with full dedication and making the world a better place for everyone, he added.
