AMUAAQ holds virtual condolence meeting for late AMU staffs, alumni

(MENAFN - Gulf Times) A virtual condolence meeting was recently held by Aligarh Muslim University Alumni Association Qatar (AMUAAQ) on the sad demise of AMU staffs, alumni and connected family members. The condolence meeting started with recitation from the holy Qur’an by Hafiz Abdul Rab Umri Madani followed by its Urdu translation and ‘dua e maghfirat’ at the end. Dr Nadeem Zafar Jilani delivered a keynote address, remembering his father in law Dr Hussain Ahmad and Ahmad Umar Farooq, elder brother of AMU vice chancellor. Prof Tariq Mansoor, AMU VC, expressed his feelings over death of university staffs, including his elder brother and others. He said that the university has sped up the process of providing entitled benefits to the families of the teaching and non-teaching staff, who have died during Covid-19 pandemic. As many as 16 serving, 10 retired faculty members and several non-teaching staff have reportedly fell victims to the virus. According to the VC, Prof Masood Alam and his wife, senior most members of the extended family, and Prof Shabbir passed away at home. Prof Shiffat Afzal died in Bhopal, Prof Rizwan in Lucknow, Prof Siraj Ahmad in Ghaziabad, and Prof Iqbal Ali in Kanpur. Prof Mobashit, ex-principal, passed away at Fortis in Delhi and Prof Arif Siddiqi at home. Prof Farhatullah Khan is said to have died of heart attack. Khusrshhed Akhtar was cured of Covid-19 at JNMC. He suddenly fell sick and passed away at Rusa Hospital Aligarh. One died of brain tuberculosis and liver disease, name hidden. Prof M M Sufyan Beg, principal of Zakir Hussain College of Engineering & Technology and Chairman AMU Alumni Affairs, also expressed his sorrow and sympathy towards aggrieved families. Jawed Ahmed, AMUAAQ president, expressed his sadness on the loss of AMU staffs, alumni and others. The others who expressed their sorrow and grief over the loss of life included: Prof Najmul Islam (general secretary of AMU Teachers Association), AMUAAQ management committee representatives – Dr Ashna Nusrat, Mohammed Farman Khan (general secretary), Mohammed Faisal Naseem (vice president), Farrukh Farooqui, Syed Mohd Zakiullah (editor), Mamnoon Ahmad Bangash; Fasiullah Khan (president of AMOUBA Delhi/NCR), Irfan Mohammed Khan (Kuwait representative of Federation of AMUAA GCC), Dr Arshad Haque (GS AMOUBA Bihar), Furqan Anjum (AMUAA UAE), S M Shoeb (GS AMOUBA Lucknow), Harun Khan (Oman representative of Federation of AMUAA GCC), Sibtain (AMUAA Canada), and Imran Saeeduz Zafar.    MENAFN21052021000067011011ID1102111743
