Qatar inaugurates GOPAC General Secretariat office

(MENAFN - Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) DOHA, June 6 (KUNA) -- Qatar inaugurated the office of the General Secretariat of the Global Organization for Parliamentarians Against Corruption (GOPAC) on Sunday.In a speech during the inauguration ceremony, Speaker of Qatar's Shura Council Ahmed Al Mahmoud said that the inauguration comes in a critical time where parliamentarians need to exert further efforts to create initiatives and supervise the huge budgets aimed at fighting the COVID-19 pandemic.The office aims to boost economy, supervise spending and provide a better life, he noted, adding that it is the parliamentarians'' responsibility to fight corruption.Meanwhile, the speaker underlined GOPAC's achievements after he was elected president for the organization, mainly setting goals that must be achieved within two years.He renewed his call for the international community to take it into its responsibility to fight corruption.The ceremony was attended by head of Qatar's Administrative Control and Transparency Authority Hamad Al-Mesned and other senior officials, and was watched on live video by parliamentarians around the world.
