(MENAFN - Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) BRUSSELS, June 10 (KUNA) -- The European Union Thursday urged for a swift vaccination of the world population against coronavirus in order to end the pandemic by next year."We do subscribe to the G7 aim to end the pandemic by 2022 by stepping up the global vaccination. The European Union has from the beginning contributed massively to this," President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, told an online press conference in Brussels today ahead of the G7 summit in the UK."Today in Europe, more than 50 percent of the adult population have received at least one shot. And, even better, today 100 million Europeans are fully vaccinated. We achieved that whilst never stopping export. From the 700 million doses that have been produced in the European Union, since last December, roughly 350 million doses have been exported to over 90 countries," she noted. She said that the G7 summit has a very broad agenda."These three days are really packed. So I want to focus on some of the topics: The economic impact of the crisis, we will look at that. We will, of course, also look at the international environment, the rules-based system. We will look at the global education status, health, of course, and climate," she added. On 11-13 June, the United Kingdom hosts the G7 meeting in Carbis Bay, Cornwall. Charles Michel, President of the European Council, and von der Leyen represent the EU at the summit of the leaders of the world's seven most advanced economies. On his part, Michel told the joint press conference that "G7 has to be able to mobilise to address the major challenges we are facing."First of all to support and promote a rules-based international order, to push back the various threats and to beat the pandemic," he said."We must make sure that the world is vaccinated as soon as possible," added Michel. The UK has invited leaders from Australia, India, South Korea and South Africa to attend part of the meeting as guest countries at the G7 summit.
