(MENAFN - Emirates News Agency (WAM)) MANAMA, 1st July, 2021 (WAM) -- The second edition of Princess Sabeeka bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa Global Award for Women Empowerment has been announced today officially. The UN Women launched the global award in cooperation with the Kingdom of Bahrain, which was represented by the Supreme Council for Women (SCW). The launch ceremony was held on the sidelines of the�Generation of Equality”, being organised jointly by France and Mexico. The international prize, which is awarded every three years, aims to shed light on the contributions of institutions and individuals around the world to empower women and girls.  The award honors achievements in women's empowerment issues across four categories: the public sector, the private sector, civil society organizations and individuals. Nominations for the Princess Sabeeka bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa Global Award for Women Empowerment care be made through the  website style="font-size:10.5pt;font-family:"Arial",sans-serif; color:#40454D">HRH Princess Sabeeka bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa, Wife of HM the King and SCW President, described the launch of the award as an opportunity to shed light on the mission and goals of the prize. In a recorded message, she stressed the role of the UN Women in providing opportunities to exchange practices, transfer knowledge aqnd harness all national efforts and contributions to empower women, in line with the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).  SCW Secretary-General Hala Al Ansari addressed the event remotely, commending the UN Women for its cooperation with the council to launch the second edition of the global award in support of international efforts to bolster women’s status and the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).  She stressed the importance of launching the award on the sidelines of the Generation of Equality” forum, which highlights key issues related to gender balance and equal opportunities during these challenging times. She said that the award criteria were set in line with international standards and practices, to highlight the important role of public-private partnerships to adopt and consolidate non-biased policies against women, and to call for justice in equality between women and men in all areas of public life. She stressed the importance of the award in supporting institutional and individual efforts, initiatives and projects aimed at integrating women’s needs in development, highlighting societal endeavors based on expertise, talents and creativity to enhance the stability and security of women and their families, and emphasizing Bahrain’s commitment to the advancement of women as a major driver of sustainable development at the global level. �This global award comes as an extension of a national prize launched by HRH Princess Sabeeka bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa 14 years ago, which contributed to support national efforts and increasing the participation rate of Bahraini women working in the public and private sectors, especially in middle management positions”, she said.  She underlined Bahrain’s strides in promoting equal opportunities and implementing programmes aimed to enhance the balance between career and family life by targeting the needs of working women and ensuring the sustainability of their progress in the workforce.  Al-Ansari called on institutions and individuals around the world to share their success stories through their participation in the 2nd edition of Princess Sabeeka bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa Global Award for Women Empowerment. UN Assistant Undersecretary Assistant Secretary General and Deputy Executive Director at UN Women Dr. Anita Bhatia  commended Bahrain’s participation in launching the award during these challenging health conditions rattling the world, which affirms keenness on promoting women-related issues.  She pointed out that Bahrain has provided the necessary protection for women's rights in parallel with international human rights obligations and set  constitutional guarantees to enable women to exercise their role in various political, social and economic fields She underlined the success of the UN Women and the Supreme Council for Women in joint cooperation by launching the first edition of this award in 2018.
