Hong Kong's appeal court lowered the bar for sedition convictions on Thursday in a ruling expected to affect ongoing trials of news outlets and the government's new national security law. The sedition offence, formerly a little-used relic of Hong Kong's British colonial era, was dusted off as Beijing launched a crackdown on dissent in the financial hub following 2019's democracy protests.
