Hawaii officials declare emergency as lava flows toward homes

Lava from the Kilauea volcano is less than a mile from a Big Island subdivision and could reach the community in five to seven days. The emergency declaration does not mean that an evacuation is underway, but officials are urging residents to have an escape plan in place.
