Search efforts continued in a Southern California community, which was devastated by a mudslide this week. The number of people reported missing rose to 43.

Among the 17 killed were children ages 3, 6, 10 and 12.

The victims were killed when mudslide occurred in the Montecito area of Santa Barbara County, early Tuesday morning.

The natural disaster followed a heavy downpour, that struck areas burned by the huge Thomas Fire that scorched hillsides last month..
