Harrison High School

3>> thank you, jenna.jeff students were just a few of thousands across the country participating in the walkouts. but those at harrison high school did it a little differently. here's how this group honored the lives lost in florida one month ago today. #@nat of bellkayla: for 17 minutes... students sat inside harrison's auditorium. kline: "we are not here to be angry, we are not here to fight and get nowhere,"kayla: no one walked outside for national school walkout day here. though we were asked to stay out while the presentation was underway. kline: "all of this like from here and down, that was full." kayla: harrison sophomore kline turner led the event. she read the parkland shooting victims' names, held a moment of silence and performed a self-written speech. kline: "no more lives deserve to be taken, no more families deserve to be shattered as we stand by and watch without taking action,"kayla: students passed around a petition that will be sent to both local and national elected officials. but turner says this was not a political event. it was for every student. kline: "so, it doesn't really matter like your political party or what you personally believe as long as you think that like some form of change in our society is needed then come and honor the lives and let's just come together for one main cause," marshall: "i could tell early on that it was a very important cause to her. and i respect that and i was glad that we could work together," kayla: turner met with principal cory marshall several times to plan this presentation. he rearranged the free period schedule so students wouldn't have to miss class to attend. neither of them considered this a protest. marshall: "i feel like a protest is one side against another and i never really felt like that here," kayla: we asked if he believes in the cause. marshall: "i feel like our schools are safe. can they be safer? sure. absolutely. but it's always a balance for schools to be safe and secure but also welcoming and a place that kids want to be,"kayla: although this national event was designed for students to walk out of school. turner feels like harrison's was just as effective. kline: "it's still the same cause, it's still the same goal. we were still together and we are still standing for the 3same thing,"@ students wore white today to show unity and support for victims of school shootings throughout the years. 3>>as
