Massachusetts Gas Pipeline Explosions Destroy Dozens Of Homes, Kills One
According to a report by Reuters, on Friday, thousands of people in Boston's suburbs had little hope of returning home as investigators scrambled to uncover the cause of dozens of gas explosions that destroyed scores of homes, killed one person, and left many other injured.
Massachusetts Governor Charlie Baker declared a state of emergency for the area while expressing frustration with the major utility company whose gas pipeline exploded.
In reference to Columbia Gas, a unit of NiSource Inc, Baker said, "On a number of very significant issues, we heard one thing, then something else happened." Reuters reports that, as a result, Baker put rival utility Eversource Energy in charge of the response to the explosion.
