According to a report by Mother Nature Network, travelers should leave their flip-flops at home if they are planning on hiking the network of cliffside trails connecting the picturesque Mediterranean villages of Italy's Cinque Terre National Park.

Earlier this month, national park officials warned that a public information campaign urging people to choose proper hiking gear or face steep penalties ranging from 56 dollars to almost 3,000 dollars.
