WINNER'S PODIUM STORY: Nino Schurter and Lars Forster cruised to victory in the Cape Epic Mountain Bike race on Sunday (March 24) with Schurter claiming his second win while Annika Langvad and Anna van der Breggen took the title in the women's race, Langvad's fifth win in South Africa's Western Cape.

Schurter and Forster started the day more than 8 minutes ahead of Manuel Fumic (Germany) and Henrique Avancini (Brazil) giving them plenty of breathing room on the last stage which stretched 70 kilometers (43.5 miles) with a 1,800 metre (5,900 foot) vertical gain.

Sergio Mantecon Gutierrez of Spain and team mate Ondrej Cink of the Czech Republic netted the stage win with a photo finish beating Philp Buys and Matthys Beukes, both of South Africa, by just one-tenth of a second.

Schurter and Forster finished a conservative 14th for Stage 7, but overall still finished 7 minutes and 36.9 seconds ahead of Fumic and Avancini in second.

Damiano Ferraro (Italy) and Samuele Porro (Italy) finished third overall, 16 minutes and 37.3 seconds behind the winners.

In the women's race, Annika Langvad of Denmark nabbed her fifth Cape Epic win with team mate Anna van der Breggen of the Netherlands.

It was also the duo's seventh stage win of the eight-day competition.

The winners finished a full 30 minutes, 22.7 seconds ahead of Candice Lill of South Africa and Germany's Adelheid Morath in second overall.

Ariane Lüthi of Switzerland and Maja Wloszczowska of Poland finished third overall.
