Pentagon To Transfer $1 Billion For The U.S.-Mexico Border Wall
According to a report by Reuters, on Wednesday, acting US Defense Secretary Patrick Shanahan said that he would push ahead with plans to transfer 1 billion dollars to help fund President Donald Trump's wall at the US-Mexico border, acknowledging that backlash from Congress is likely.
Democratic Representative Adam Smith, chairman of the House Armed Service Committee, said that the panel did not approve the proposed shift in Pentagon expenditure.
Reuters reports that the decision to move ahead with the transfer could prompt Congress to create new restrictions that could impact the Pentagon in the future.
Shanahan reportedly said, "There are going to be consequences.
I understand the position of the committees.
I also have a standing legal order from the commander-in-chief."
