PHOTOGRAPH OF "REIWA" CHARACTERS FORMED BY SHEEP STORY: A flock of 150 sheep welcomed the arrival of the new imperial era in Japan on Wednesday (May 1) as new Emperor Naruhito attended various events at the palace related to his ascension.
Mother Farm, a farm theme park near Tokyo, organised the event where hungry sheep ran out and formed the lettering to spell "Reiwa", the name of the new era which means "beautiful harmony" -- encouraged by food arranged in the shape of the words.
The theme park said the sheep will make the "Reiwa" formation every day until May 31 to fete the ascension of Emperor Naruhito following the abdication of Akihito on April 30, which ended his 30-year reign.
