Tulsa Residents Warned of Flooding and Sinkholes as River Rises

Riverside Drive in Tulsa was more river than drive on May 26, after flooding left the road submerged and also led to a number of sinkholes in the River Parks area.

Tulsa Mayor GT Bynum said River Parks would be closed between 11th and 96th Streets.

As well as the sinkholes, he said, trees were beginning to fall in the area due to “erosion of the soil under them.” It was “not a safe place,” he said on Facebook.

Tornadoes overnight into May 26 had damaged power lines and vehicles, but not structures, the mayor said.

The water level of the Arkansas River was expected to rise into Monday, May 27, as the Army Corps increased the release from the Keystone Dam.
