C1 3 history-making cases in the u-s supreme court.

L3: now at 11 white new details in pipeline explosion new details are coming out about the lincoln county gas pipeline explosion.

L3: now at 11 white early homecoming parade and we'll take you to an early homecoming parade in lexington.

L3 veronica: white good evening..

I'm glad you're here tonight... i'm veronica jean seltzer.

Tom kenny is off.

The united states supreme court is back in session for its new term.

Some are calling it a blockbuster session with abortion, the second amendment and lgbtq rights on the docket.

Today...the court began hearing three cases on whether it's legal to fire employees based on their sexual orientation or gender identity.

Two of the cases deal with men claiming they were fired because they're gay.

And the third is about a man who underwent gender re-assignment surgery and went back to work at a funeral home as a transgender woman.

Aimee stephens says she was then fired because she wore a woman's uniform instead of the man's uniform she previously wore.

In our top story at 11... abc 36's monica harkins talked to people here in the commonwealth about their thoughts on these historic cases.

L3: white local look at federal lgbtq rights hearings lexington l3: white local look at federal lgbtq rights hearings lexington l3: white local look at federal lgbtq rights hearings lexington "i'm very nervous about the cases in the supreme court right now."

This is danny woolmus a kentucky native who identifies as gay.

He says having lgbtq rights cases heard before the united states supreme court is an exciting time for the lgbtq community.

"but at the same we've seen the way the court has worked in the past and how sometimes it can overturn these protections."

He's referencing local protections many states have implemented because there isn't a federal law protecting lgbtq people from job discrimination.

"file nat pop:trans lives matter" in the commonwealth, they're referred to as fairness ordinances.

Fourteen local governments in the state have voted for versions of for their communities.

"something pop:clapping from fairness ordinance?"

Kent ostrander is the executive director of the family foundation...a kentucky based non-profit that focuses on family values.

"it's about time that the court step up and begin unraveling all of this messaging that's been going on for several years."

A main argument for the cases goes back to the 1964 civil rights act... it includes "sex" as a protected class from job discrimination.... the prosecution argues "sex" includes sex based sterotype discrimination.... meaning a man's stereotype is he dates women so to fire someone because he dates men is discrimination...bas ed on his sex.

Ostrander disagrees with that argument.

"i would hope that the court would fall back on what was passed back in 1964 and just keep sex as sex, not redefine it.

And if there should be a change, let the congress do it or let the state legislators do it."

Transgender activist tuesday meadows hopes people realize despite a conservative majority on the supreme court...this doesn't have to be "a liberal issue."

"this is not a republican or demorcat issue.

This is a fair issue.

"i think that's what america is all about, i think we're about fairness, i think we're about people being equal and equality i think we've gotten away from that."

The supreme court's decision on these cases is scheduled to come out next year.

In lexington, monica harkins, abc 36 news .

Looking at politics... and the president is now refusing to cooperate with the impeachment inquiry against him.

Up next... what the trump administration is prepared to do to fight it.

Hey, my name is george and i love the chick-fil-a grilled nuggets.

It's like me grilling at home, it tastes very similar to that.

Except the seasoning, i probably can't season it as well as chick-fil-a does.

The chicken is super tender and honesty, the best nuggets i've ever tasted.

My name is meredith and a little thing i love about chick-fil-a's mac & cheese is the oven toasted cheesy top layer.

If home had flavor, it would be chick-fil-a's mac & cheese.

I'm passionate about it.

Governor bevin called teachers selfish and ignorant.

A thug mentality...selfish... throwing a temper tantrum.

Knock 'em out and drag 'em to shore.

It's been a hard couple of years hearing the governor insult us.

I regret nothing that i have ever said hearing the governor insult us.

About an educator.

He doesn't respect working-class people, but every time matt bevin knocks us down, andy beshear lifts us up.

But every time matt bevin knocks us down, he fought for us and he kept his word and he won.

Matt bevin divides us and andy unites us, and that's the difference.

Matt bevin divides us and andy unites us, c1 3 trump is prepared to go to court to fight the impeachment inquiry against him... and as reid binion reports... new details are coming out about another call between trump and ukraine's president.

L3: nation view white trump ready to go to court over impeachment l3: nation view white rep.

Nancy pelosi (d-ca) speaker of the house l3: nation view white trump ready to go to court over impeachment l3: nation view white rep.

Lee zeldin (r) new york l3: nation view white trump ready to go to court over impeachment l3: nation view white rep.

Doug jones (d) alabama l3: nation view white trump ready to go to court over impeachment "crazy" and "frightening."..

That's how president trump's call with ukraine is being described by a white house official..

Who claims they were "shaken" by the call while listening to it..

That's according to a source familiar with the whistleblower probe.

The trump administration is now saying they won't cooperate with the impeachment investigation..

Sending a letter to the democrats heading it up..

Saying quote: "your "inquiry" is constitutionally invalid and violates basic due process rights and the separation of powers."

Claiming democrats haven't provided "fundamental fairness"..

In allowing the president to cross- examine witnesses or have access to evidence..

And again calls for a full house vote..

Rep.

Nancy pelosi, house speaker: "the president is obstructing congress from getting the facts that we need..

It's an abuse of power for him to act this way."

Most republican lawmakers are echoing the president's sentiments..

Rep.

Lee zeldin, new york: "this whole thing is a fairytale.

Adam schiff is misleading you and you're playing along with it."

Others say they need more details..

Sen.

Doug jones, alabama: "let's get the facts and put all the facts out not only in front of the house, potentially the senate, but we don't know that yet, but certainly in front of the american people."

I'm reid binion reporting.

The country has always had a fascination with serial killers... and the fbi needs help with one of the scariest of them all.

Up next... more on who the fbi is calling the most prolific serial killer ever the f-b-i is looking for help solving the crimes of a man they who are we?

C1 3 for more deaths than any other serial killer.

One of those deaths was here in kentucky.

Dan simon has details.

He most prolific serial killer in u-s history according to the fbi.

79-year-old samuel little confessing to 93 murders.

Strangulation that took place between 1970 and 2005.

The victims hand drawn by little, from memory.

Law enforcement so far has verified 50 of the confessions, but want the public's help in dozens of others cases.

Little gave interviews describing each scene and victim.

Natsot/detective "tell me about marianne."

Samuel little/serial killer "she was you nowadays what you call a transgender."

Miami, 1971 or 72.

Samuel little/serial killer "she weighted about 135, maybe 140."

Natsot/detective "how old do you think she was?"

Samuel little/serial killer "she was 19."

He says this is ruth from north little rock, arkansas.

The timeline 1992 to 1994.

Samuel little/serial killer "oh man, i loved her.

And she was light skinned, honey colored skin.

Her and like six other girls were sitting on a porch doing some crack in there."

Authorities say little targeted women often of marginalized or vulnerable groups such as prostitutes or drug addicts.

This unnamed woman.

He met in columbus ohio.

Drove with her to kentucky, then killed her.

Natsot/detective "so you meet this girl, i guess you're at a strip bar in downtown columbus."

Samuel little/serial killer "i went out to the car this white girl come out of the building.

My trunk open.

She walked over to me and said 'can you take me to miami?'" las vegas 1993.

Samuel little/serial killer "she was kind of thin, dark skinned about 40 years old.

She's out there hustling."

New orleans a decade earlier natsot/detective "tell me where you met her."

Samuel little/serial killer "i met her at a night club in new orleans.

And while we were dancing, she says 'you want to go riding after this, you know after this party's over?'" the f-b-i says the bodies sometimes went unidentified, and their deaths never investigated.

Convicted in 2014, now serving three life sentences in california for multiple killings... authorities hope someone may remember a detail that could further the investigations.

That was dan simon reporting.

Turning to sports... and the football cats are facing down a pivotal game this week.

Up next... how important the arkansas matchup will be for the rest of the season... and their bowl chances.

On saturday, the 2 and 3 when i went to aspen dental and they asked me "what's wrong?", i go "i had rotting teeth in my mouth.

"my fiancé hadn't seen me smile in ten years.

"i have a child on the way here in the next five months... "i would like to be able to smile in his first picture when he's born."

They said "we can do that."

If i would've known that i was gonna be fifty times happier with dentures i would've fixed it before.

At aspen dental, we're all about yes.

Like yes to a 90-day denture money back guarantee.

Yes dentures start at $399.

And yes we can help you make picture perfect moments.

Call now or book online at aspendental.com c1 3 will it be a make or break game?

To answer that you'd have to define what "make or break" really means.

When it comes to making a bowl..it's a big one.

If the cats lose, they will have to win 4 of their last 6 to become bowl eligible.

As a reminder, one of those is between the hedges next week against georgia.

Here's what stoops had to say on the importance of this game.

It is a sad day in the lexington high c1 3 school sports world.

Hall of fame coach al prewitt passed away today.

He was 86.

Prewitt is most well known for his time spent coaching henry clay.

In 1983, he coached them to a boys sweet 16 state title.

He was inducted into the kentucky high school coaches hall of fame in 1996.

The gym at henry clay was named in his honor in 2003.

During the offseason, e-j montgomery was the final cat to test the n-b-a waters, but ultimately decide to return to kentucky.

He now enters his sophomore year.

A top-ranked recruit...deciding to stay for another year...he's a big...kinda reminds solid blue fans of p-j washington, right?

Washington was considered a second-round pick, he came back and ended up being a lottery pick.

There's no better example of what returning can do right?

That's why coach cal is using p-j as an example.

Solid blue fans spoke...and u-k athletics and the lexington center c1 3 listened.

When solid fans enter for madness...this is what they will be met with.

Those old...let's be honest...unbelievab ley uncomfortable bleachers in the upper level have been replaced with seats with backs, arm rests, and cup holders..

Creating more leg room and easier access to the seats and aisles.

Humorous, informative sports banter.

Mom and dad always wanted to run an orphanage.

They had five of us instead.

But they still wanted to adopt and give someone a forever home.

Kentucky said, "five kids?"

"no more."

So, they went outside kentucky to adopt me.

And me.

And me.

And me.

My father ran for governor to make it easier to bring kentucky's foster children into permanent homes.

And he has.

Give it a try!
