It's that time of year again for downtown madison... freakfest returns with 3 stages this saturday in the downtown area... always plenty of traffic and safety reminders for those planning to attend, eric franke joins us with more information.
New at 4 blue mark -- we remember all too well -- 2005 was the last year this was not a ticketed event..
And there were more than 330 arrests..
There were just 13... despite over 32- thousand tickets being sold..
Billed as the region's largest halloween party..
National acts like lil yachty and gin blossoms will take the stage saturday night... along with regional and local acts... presented by frank productions..
Police will be very present as has been the norm in recent years..
They've played a big role in the transformation of freakfest from the mayhem the city, especially state street retailers experienced in the early 2000s.
(((tiffany kenney/ 140820 downtown around halloween was not always the favorite time for our businesses and our retailers, there was a little bit of chaos and a lot a bit of trouble, instead we now have a great evnet for the community the event is enjoyable for many, our restaurants bars and retailers are exicted to welcome you downtown.140839))) from a traffic standpoint -- lake, johnson and dayton all close at 5..
Gorham closes at 6..
No crossing state street at that time..
And you will need a ticket to be on state street at all, at 7pm.
The police also want to remind people in costume..
Leave behind any part of your costume that even remotely..
Looks like a weapon... or they'll take it..
No glass or alcohol can be brought onto state street..
And there will be hundreds of officers present..
And they'll also be monitoring with city cameras, mark and dannika.
Plan ahead for parking -- no football home game this weekend - but there is a badger
