During a webinar, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar said that the year 2008 was a turning point in modern era marked by the global financial crisis and the rise of China, India and ASEAN, which led to economic rebalancing. “This process took an even sharper turn in 2020 due to the Covid-19 pandemic, which accelerated trendlines and led to greater multi-polarity,” he said. Jaishankar added that it is also in India’s strategic interest to facilitate and partner in the rise of Africa, He said, “India’s ability to “step up and assume global responsibility to do good” is a very important part of the country’s rise. Thai protesters are learning a whole new language, developed within days to co-ordinate among crowds of thousands of people at demonstrations that have swollen in defiance of a government ban and despite the arrest of many protest leaders. Libby Hogan reports.
All stations of Bangkok's elevated Skytrain transit system were closed on Saturday afternoon to try to keep protesters from gathering but crowds met anyway and marched or took taxis to several rally points spread through the city
