American tourist arrested after 'stealing Gucci wallets' from designer store in Thailand

An American tourist was arrested after allegedly stealing Gucci wallets worth 43,040 THB (4,051 GBP) from a designer store.

Christopher Allen Braman, 21, was seen on CCTV appearing to stuff the luxury leather goods into his pockets at the shopping mall in Phuket, southern Thailand.

Footage from last Wednesday (February 19) shows Braman, from Oklahoma, wearing shorts, hoody and two backpacks while he allegedly stealing the Gucci wallets.

The store manager Kanthima Niyakiat later reported the crime to the police and took the footage to show them as an evidence.

The police traced the suspect and arrested him the following afternoon (February 20) at a nearby shop.

They took the American back to his rented home and confiscated the stolen goods worth 43,040 THB (1,051 GBP) that he had hidden them in the closet.

Braman allegedly confessed to stealing the goods and was pictured pointing at the items hidden in his wardrobe.

They included a brown wallet valued at 15,500 THB, a tiger print wallet valued at 13,440 THBand a black bee print wallet valued at 14,100 THB.

Police Colonel Sujin Nilbodee said they also found the suspect visa was due and he will be charge for that as well.

He said: "Initially, we charged Mr Braman with theft but after we found that his visa had expired, he will additionally also be charged for his overstaying.'' Braman now faces being deported back to the U.S. unless the charges are dropped.
