Bloody sunday
Bloody sunday
a march in hsv

Vying for the presidency.

Huntsville was one of three cities that held a sister march alongside the one in selma.

The other two took place in kentucky and arkansas.

This was the first time sister marches took place to commemorate the events of "bloody sunday."

Participants walked from pratt avenue through the washington street overpass towards the madison county courthouse.

Waay-31s alexis scott was there and alexis... what was the reaction to this new march?

More than 100 people came and walked the length of this bridge to the courthouse to stand in solidarity with those who marched in selma, alabama today.

Many people involved told me they were excited to be apart of history in the rocket city.

The walk commemorates the attempt to march from selma to montgomery on march 7, 1960, where hundreds of civil rights marchers walked across the edmund pettus bridge in selma.

Today in huntsville... organizers wanted to pay homage to the movement here in the city... instead of going to selma.

People i spoke with said they were marching to raise awareness of the importance of being able to vote now in the 20th century... free of restraints.

"to commemorate those who have lost their lives in the civil rights struggle is an exuberating feeling and with the women's league voters, they get people registered to vote and then united women of color, we keep people engaged in the voting process and the things beyond voting," angela curry is the executive director of united women of color and she told me they put together this event in less than 30 days.

Representative laura hall came to her and asked to do something here in huntsville and curry told me the turn out was more than what she expected.
