Scholar Athlete of the Week: Kolten Sanford, Bosse

Over at bosse..

Kolten sanford has the tools it takes to run the point successfully..

But his tool box is much bigger than that..

As he succeeds in the classroom and the community.

The senior bulldog is our latest scholar athlete of the week.

Though he may be the shortest man on the court..

Especially next to his 6 foot 10 inch classmate..

Kolten sanford has never let his height slow him down..

Instead..

Using it to his advantage.

Ever since i was growing up i was always the shortest on the court so, i mean i guess from that experience i know how to use my height as an advantage to some solid tall defenders and then how to get them off balance and get my jumper off and create for others.

You can measure height, you can measure weight, but you can't measure heart.

And his heart is huge he wants to be the best at everything.

The one thing about him is that he is constantly trying to better himself in every aspect.

The 1000 point scorer doesn't just spend his time getting up shots..

Sanford also focuses on his grades..

The senior bulldog ranked in the top 12 percent of his class with a 3.7 grade point average.

When i was growing up my parents always preached to me, school first basketball second.

So i know that basketball has to end sometime and then after that you've got to rely on how smart you are so i really focus on my academics because i know that's going to help me succeed in the real world.

Some kids, they get done and they just want to be done and him, he gets it done, he does what he's supposed to do, but he usually goes above and beyond, and then he wants to help others so, that right there just shows the type of kid, the character, the type of person that he is.

And when he's not hitting the hardwood..

Or studying for exams..

Sanford can be found in the evansville community.

The student athletic advisory council member involved in 5 different clubs and activities.

I just love training little kids because i know that's their dream, they look up to the high school kids like they're really good at basketball and i just like the smile on their face after we work with them.

He's never willing to settle and somebody who's not willing to settle is always willing to go and get that next step within their life and that's kolten.

Whatever he chooses, coach burkhart is going to be on kolten sanford's side and we will be there no matter what.
