Westlund said that witnessing the incident is still something he and his family are taking the time to process.

Driving among others.

A man was shot and killed by a springfield police officer yesterday afternoon.

This was after there were several reports of a disorderly subject in the best buy parking lot.

Kezi 9 news reporter kennedy dendy spoke with a witness who says yesterday's incident highlights the importance of police accountability.

"i do think every law enforcement officer should have a body camera" witnesses are*speaking out about saturday's officer- involved shooting outside of best buy that left a man dead.

Bridge: i spoke to one man who saw this all happen here in this parking lot...he tells me he was with his wife and young child.

"just on a little family outing, it's unfortunate when things happen like that, it's even more unfortunate when you're out with your family, you know."

Westlund described the incident as*shocking and says this does bring up a greater topic about police accountability.

"i think the guy could have been tazed, he could have been hit with a beanbag gun, i mean he probably would have gone down."

Police say that the actions of the suspect caused the officer to use deadly force.

"i heard something metal clank on the ground and then i heard the officer say stop and i heard something clank again."

Westlund heard the officer yell for the man to get down and to*stop multiple times...and then he heard the three shots.

He says that change is needed and there's a greater message that all can learn from.

"whether or not that officer was in the wrong, or whether or not that officer was justified in his shooting, that's still somebody's kid or somebody's dad, that's somebody's husband."

The name of the man or the officer involved has not yet been released.

"i feel for him and i feel for the guy that had to die obviously...it's unfortunate.

Just really sad all the way around."
