I'm najahe sherman.

Dan shaffer is off.

We are bringing you team coverage tonight as agencies across north alabama shared what they're doing to prevent the disease from spreading.

We'll start with waay 31's breken terry.

She asked the florence superintendent what's next for students who are missing class.

Yeah guys - every spring teachers and whole school districts are essentially judged on how students score on their spring assessment tests in public schools.

Dr. jimmy shaw with florence city schools was among a handful of department heads who attended a news conference today to talk about what's next with the coronavirus.

Shaw said those tests were supposed to be taken in just a few weeks.

But now that schools are closed until april - it's unclear if those assessment tests will happen.

Shaw said the state board of education is updating educators across the state about the spring testing.

One of the latest updates we had last night even was the possibility of our state applying to the federal government to have an assessment waver for this year.

They did not say that is what they will do but they laid out all of the options and that is one of the options.

Shaw said those test scores are a direct reflection of how they are teaching and growing student.

He said with so much disruption this year - it's unclear if or when those tests will happen.
