Hamilton County is financially backing a coronavirus test developed at Baylor School.

It could speed up testing in our area.

The test will have results in just 4 hours.

Cases.

The hamilton county commission passed a resolution this morning that would grant one point five million dollars to researchers at the baylor school.

That will help produce a faster testing method for covid 19.

News 12's taylor bishop has tonight's continuing coverage.

"we are very proud of our science department, and especially these two professors and their willingness to be able to offer this and their willingness to do it" it was a monumantal day for hamilton county and the baylor school as they were awarded a one point five million dollar grant to help with covid- 19 testing.

"the testing would make such a difference hearing that from the medical community.

Not just untill they get their equipment to test but even after that because we're kinda in this thing for the long haul" this new testing method would take the wait time for coronavirus results from days to hours.

It would also allow 60 people to be tested per day to begin and possibly go up to testing as many as 300 to 400 people per day.

"value of the timing of these results you can't measure it and as we have heard from the hospital group the wait is what is going to answer that question.

The value is the timing of the screening, the results and that's what we came together to solve that problem" the baylor school science labs will be leased by the county for testing efforts.

The tests results once given would have a turnaround time of about four hours.

"the way we are going to do this process, you know we are going to be there every morning at the three hospitals to pick it up.

We're going to be making sure it's going out and making sure it gets back in a timley manner."

Baylor stresses that this is a laboratory protocol process and baylor is not a physical testing site.

"in a mid-size county like we are that we are able to have these resources to our citizens here.

To be able to protect our citizens, to be able to identiy people now that do have it, that actually do need to be isolated or quarentined that walk around with it and don't feel all that bad.

That may be running a fever and don't see it but eventually we will be able to get to them" in chattanooga, taylor bishop news 12 now.
