>> emily: if you're cooped up with a furry friend, you're one of the lucky ones, a lot of us are spending time with our pets, and here is brandon foster, and julio santos with dog, dixie, and these are a couple of hollywood stars because they're featured on the wildly popular series, pd.

And thank you for joining us.

>> thank you for having us.

>> so i see dixie is in the back there, chewing on her favorite toy, and what's she chewing on?

>> i gave it to her so she can play.

And she said hey, i'm going to take off, but that's her favorite toy, it's a toy doughnut.

>> so is it true that officers, and even officer dogs like doughnuts?

>> yes, she loves t this is her favorite to you, she shares it with my other canine, but she loves t.

>> how long have you been working with canines?

>> i've been working with canines for four years, and canine dixie is my first partner, and my first washed out of the program.

And my second partner passed away from medical issues, and she's my third partner.

>> she's a german shepherd from the netherlands.

>> we want to talk about covid-19 and how it's can you talk about how fostering animals has been affecting them.

>> a lot of the rescues and the shelters have had an uptick in people fostering them at this time, and there of been others coming into the system as well.

But i know a lot of people i talked with have enjoyed and their dogs, not understanding whether they're getting so much attention, and whether the dogs are really enjoying it, and its kind of the same as usual around here, because it's just peanut and i all the time.

>> deputy santos, has covid-19 changed the way the sheriff's department works?

The way deputies work today?

>> so we're very careful.

And we're actually practicing social distancing, and a lot of the calls that we would normally respond to that are non-priority that we're able to respond to on the phone, we're starting to implement those, and we're doing a lot of protective measures, and giving deputies protective equipment.

And minimizing the calls we go to that are non-emergency, and we can just take the report overtime phone so.

We have taken a lot of stats and are adapting to the new situation this we have.

It has been changing a lot for canines, and they're working as normal, so they don't notice the difference.

>> right.

And tell us about your work on live pd.

I have so many friends that love watching this show.

And it takes you across the country from station to station, and city to city, and is it happening in realtime.

And arrests happening in realtime.

And how did you get involved in this?

>> so the serves office -- had sheriffs' office wanted to be interactive with the public, and the public love it.

We are very proactive and people love that, and think love seeing all of the things that we do, all of the car chases and neat things that we get into.

It was neat.

And a lot of the guys on my patrol shift have live pd cameras, and being canine, we get called to the more interesting scenes, so we track for suspects and vehicles, and it's neat.

And it's a cool experience.

Growing up, i watcheds other canine cops on tv, and so having the opportunity to be one of those guys.

>> it has come full circle, hasn't it?

Brian, tell us about the latest issue, and what you want people to take away from it.

>> we had contacted both the goose creek police department and the berkeley county sheriffs for their canine officers.

Because they train together.

And they have multiple dogs nar working, so we wanted to kind of feature them and show the public that these dogs are out there.

And we thought these were some interesting stories, with like goose creek, we have officer gracie, who was actually a police dog at another police department, and end under in a rescue, so she ended up being to do bid the goose creek police department and going back to work, and she's working there now, and one of the other dogs that we covered in the issue.

>> how do people find it?

>> it's out online right now, low country dog.com, and other companies will be coming in soon.

>> that's wonderful.

>> low country dog.com.

>> and of course we're going to stay found and see what events you'll eventually have.

All of the events have been canceled because of covid-19 but thank you for joining us and we're going to
