The Comets captain is now a finalist for the overall AHL Man of the Year, Yanick Dupre Memorial Award.

While that is no longer the case - one yearly award has been announced.

The a-h-l announced its i-o-a/american specialty man of the year honors for all 31 teams. this year's recipient from the utica comets is the captain carter bancks.

Bancks was selected by the comets for his outstanding contribution to the local community and charitable organizations during the 2019-2020 season.

It's his second honor of this kind - earning the team's man of the year award for the 2015-16 season as well.

The ten-year pro is the longest tenured comet - he's been with the club for six seasons - and has worn the 'c' on his jersey for the past four.

Back home in canada now - i caught up with bancks via video chat where he spoke about the award - saying it stems from the mutual love between the community and the team.

Carter bancks: it's a great honor.

I have always been really proud of the work that we have done with the comets in the community and it has been a pleasure to be a part of.

There are lots of guys in the dressing room that have put a lot of time in over the years and the community has completely embraced us and made us feel very welcome and we try to do everything we can to just give back for everything we have been given by utica.

It's been an incredibly special place for me, we have had some amazing times, my family has been there, my wife was living with me there this year which was awesome.

Just the whole community, the whole fan base, the organization from top to bottom, from coaching staff to teammates, the groups we've had, it's been amazing and i've had an absolute blast.

Being in the community and getting the chance to play in front of these people for six years and it's been something that's been really special.

Bancks - along with the 30 other team recipients are now finalists for the a- h-l's yanick dupre memorial award - honoring the league's overall man of the year.

He said players still haven't been given an update on a potential return for the season.
