As the coronavirus pandemic continues, Tupelo native 80-year old Dan Ballard hopes to join those who beat the disease.

As the coronavirus pandemic continues several people are reporting that they have recovered from the disease.

Wtva's sydney darden spoke with one person who says he's been through the worst of the coronavirus and he's ready to put the whole thing behind him right now johns hopkins reports over 400 thousand people have recovered from the coronavirus and today i met one man hoping to join that group and bring awareness to just how serious this disease can be.

Dan ballard got his second corona virus test today.

After testing negative once already he says he hopes this test will officially give him the all clear.

Nats "you have to have 2 negatives within a 24 hour period."

Since ballard isn't out of the woods we spoke to him on the phone so we could maintain social distancing for the upbeat 80-year-old, the battle with coronavirus started almost a month ago.

Sot- dan ballard, coronavirus patient- " i was feeling really bad before i went to the hospital."

And once he got to the north mississippi medical center with a temperature over 105 degrees, doctors diagnosed him with covid-19 sot dan ballard, "i accept things.

I had it there was nothing i could do about it."

After 2 days in the hospital doctors released him under strict home care guidleines sot sandra ballard, dan's wife- "we had to monitor his temp and i had to continue to give him the hydroxychloroquine and the z-pac."

After a few weeks of medication and quarantining ballard's health finally turned a corner.

Sot dan ballard- "i've been up and around and so on and so forth."

He hopes after today he'll be able to join the group of 32 thousand people in the country that kicked this disease to the curb.

Bringing awareness about prevention... sot dan ballard- "please wash your hands as often as you can."

And starting a conversation about hope sot dan ballard- "i don't just have hope i have expectations.

I think everything is going to be fine."

Ballard says he won't have the results for his second test back for 3 or 4 more days he says once he's cleared he plans to get back to work.
