The front-line soldiers in the coronavirus battle are taking a beating, themselves.

Hospitals have expended millions to deal with the virus....and they lost even more money when they had to stop elective procedures and surgeries.

Newschannel 2's joleen ferris tells us just how much mvhs is losing....and how they hope to recover.

As mvhs cares for covid sufferers and all patients at its local hospitals....the virus is attacking the hospital's fiscal health .

None .

None 1:37 "since the beginning of march through the end of may, we are projecting that we could lose up to $31 million" the revenue stopped when all elective surgeries and procedures did.

On top of that loss, mvhs paid $2.6 million in equipment and other expenses to prepare for a surge in out-of-the area covid patients....that, thankfully, never came 8:44 "we have stepped forwad and said if you need to send us 15 patients here and 15 patients there, we would step up and take them but that hasn't seemed necessary" 9:19 "they have not come to us for volunteers, either, and we have offered that" congress knows and is sending relief 5:12 "they are literally bleeding money right now because they have no revenue coming in.

They've had to cancel all non-urgent surgeries so what they've had to do is focus entirely on the pandemic which is what they should be doing.

However, if they don't get an infusion of cash from the federal government to keep their doors open, what we're gonna start seeing in the next few weeks is having to cut back on staff, having to cut back on salaries" but can the federal government keep up with the coronavirus?

3:34 "last thursday, we received $9 million dollars in the cares three federal funding, for which we are enormously grateful" 3:51 "it helps but it's $9 million.

That's less than two weeks of our expenses" choices no one wants to make....loom ahead 5:03 "we don't want to go to the layoffs.

We certainly might have to do some furloughs, like so many other hospitals in this part of ny" jf, nc2.
