This is taking a toll on farmers.

Action news now reporter mackenzie drigo joins us live, mackenzie you have been looking into to this locally - how has dairy farmers been affected?

Robert bignami the owner of brentwood farms tells me that they have lost nearly half of their income because their milk prices have dropped almost two thirds.

Bignami tells me their production has cut back.

He says they were producing 95 hudnred gallons and now they are producing 88 hundred gallons.

Bignami says that 40 percent of his market is either exported or delivered to places like restaurants.

I asked him if any left over milk can be converted into fluid milk.

"no you cant, because the milk plants have certain equipment that they are processing the milk through, and you cant get any more milk through them, and if you have a cheese plants or you have a plant that's making milk powder or butter or something you cant just have that convert into something else," # bignami says it is hard to get their product to their consumer the size of their packaging to consumers is different.

Bignami says that they cant lay off any employees because the work still needs to be done.
