How are service shops protecting themselves and you?

New this morning - action news now reporter jafet serrato is live in chico to show us the safety steps they're taking.

They're taking many of the same precautions we all are - wearing gloves, masks, and plenty of hand sanitizer.

(nats: car rising up) employees at hibdon auto center in orland are hard at work repairing cars.

"we do everything from oil changes and other maintenance you know fluid flushers that kind of thing" (nats: sliding creeper) but during the coronavirus pandemic - owner brittany hibdon is changing the rules.

"our technicians are wearing a fresh pair of gloves for every vehicle they get into" and every time employees touch something inside- they sanitize it before and after repair is done.

"we're going through gallons of hand sanitizer" steve (nord-bee) nordbye is an employee - he says his work is essential.

"people have other service needs they have a mechanical break down or something, they have to get their car fixed."

(standup:) even though the car dealership is still open, one of the ways they want to prevent mass gatherings is by closing their showroom behind me.

Instead they want you to call this number for curbside service.

(nats: car being lowered) "we've got a little station set up, where we will put your paper work down and then we're stepping away" its just one of the creative ways hibdon is keeping her business open.

"we've also locally within the orland area will do pickup and delivery from your house so you dont have to leave so you can just get your vehicle."

She also makes her employees wear a mask when meeting a customer.

Hibdon says they also let customers borrow a santized car - since they have no shuttle service and their waiting room is closed.

In chico jafet serrato action news now coverage you can count on!

Hibdon says they are offering all front line workers 50 percent off on oil changes while employees from enloe or glenn medical centers can get 20 percent off any repair.###
