Both the fort wayne fire and police departments with some good news.both say calls for service are way down since the covid 19 pandemic and shelter in place.fox 55's chris mullooy is live in fort wayne.

Chris..

Do they have any idea why??hunter..

The stay at home order helps...but really..

They aren't too sure.both the fire department and police department say its a small victory...and helps keep everyone feeling safe in the city.

Overall all the numbers all the areas we have been tracking area ll gonna be downits one of the few positives sargeant sofia rosales scatena with fort wayne police can think of... calls for service... way down in the last few weeks.looks liek we're in 30 to 35 percent decline in callsits a drastic change to the same weeks just one year ago...and one she wasn't predicting.it makes people a little more feel more safe i thinkrosales scatena says polcie were expecting to see a rise in domestic cases across the city... with many bottled up in their homes with the stay at home order.which hasn't happened.in total we're down both of those by 11 percent straight domestic calls some hospitals nationwide have reported some calls have gone down as well...and it may be from patients scared to go into a hospital... during the pandemici dont' think you should not call in thats not a wise hting to dojoshua kline with parkview health says it hasn't been the case here.

We're seeing those who need emergency care even if its not covid 19 they're still coming in and thats the right thing to dobut first responders who are going out... are wearing protective gear... just in case.the thing thats the biggest difference is the ems callsadam o connor with the fort wayne fire department says he believes calls have been down around 50 percent... but the department is being extra cautious when going out...especially when making calls to sick or elderly patients.my people have been told they're not allowed within 6 feet of a patient unless they're wearing that gear we already knew one fort wayne police officer was diagnosed with covid 19 and has since recovered...during tuesdays city council meeting... we learned a fort wayne firefighter was diagnosed.he was isolated along with 10 other fire fighters....has recovered and is now back on the job.reporting live ... chris mullooly... fox 55 news.
