USNS Comfort departs NYC after one month

The U.S. Navy Hospital Ship Comfort set sail on Thursday (April 30) after docking for a month in New York City to serve as an overflow facility for the city's taxed healthcare centers dealing with the novel coronavirus outbreak.

The 1,000-bed Comfort never neared its capacity as the city quickly became the world's epicenter for COVID-19 infections.

Over the past month, New York has leveled off and now has about 12,000 hospitalizations.

New York City has suffered some 13,000 deaths from the coronavirus pandemic.
