Caring for the hungry and homeless in Gulfport has been the mission of Feed my Sheep for decades here in South Mississippi and their services are now in even higher demand as many find themselves in a tough situation in the wake of COVID-19.

Refreshments ... and piping hot- home-style southern - - - - cooking ... it's what's on the- menu at feed my sheep, and whil- the mouth-watering quality of - these meals remains the - same, the way they're served ha- changed in the wake of- - - - covid-19.

- david lion, feed my sheep board- member: " we serve about 600 meals a day currently.- about 325 are home-bound- delivery meals, to people that- are unable to drive up- here, mostly senior citizens, o- people who are no longer drivng- due to health - reasons and can't get out of th- house.

The rest of the people,- come up here and eat, - about 300.

We did have to chang- our operations a little while - ago when- covid-19 came out.

We changed - the in- dining room service to- where we just have- grab-and-go meals now.

We pass- them out at the door."

For decades, feed my sheep has- been serving up hot meals - daily, monday through friday -- no questions asked - and the- lines are getting longer.

- will shurley, feed my sheep - board member: " with the downturn in the economy, becaus- of the covid-19 pandemic, we- have seen an uptick in people - who are - looking for a hot meal."

Toni miles, news 25: " and on friday, feed my sheep will be - serving up hundreds - of hot meals for the community,- but also on friday, from 9 am t- 1 p.m.

Right here at- feed my sheep on 19th street in- gulfport, they will be providin- free covid-19 - testing."

David lion, feed my sheep board- member: "we're working with the police chief and- his homeless to housing hub.

On- of the partners, coastal family- health, is- offering free covid-19 testing- for this very vulnerable, most- at-risk homeless- population.

In our parking lot,- they're bringing their van and- medical - professionals."

No one will be turned away for- testing - or a hot meal...and - it's- just not those in need who are- grateful.

It - takes everyone to make a- ministry like feed my sheep - happen.
