The Indian Navy's Operation Samudra Setu has kicked off with the INS Jalashwa reaching Male port to repatriate Indian citizens.
The Navy has deployed two ships to evacuate people from Male.
Around 1,000 people are likely to be evacuated in the first phase.
All Covid-19 related preventive measures have been put in place in the ship.
The evacuated people will disembark in Kochi.
