Non-essential retail stores were allowed to open their doors once again today to the excitment of workers and shoppers.

Abc 36's austin miller shows us how one business did it.

The doors are open..disco is playing..and in it's first day back..

Joseph beth's bookstore says books are flying off the shelves.

Sarah hewlett- trt 11"i keep using the word excited, but we're very pleased to be back.

We're doing very well and sold one of our biggest pieces today, so it's been lovely."

Assistant general manager sarah hewlett says the store has been working for weeks to get to make sure customers and workers are safe inside the store.

Sarah hewlett- trt 06"it's been nice.

It's been not easy, but it's been doable."

That difficult transition is expected to get easier.

A little more than half of their workers have returned.

The store plans to bring back more as sales rise.

Sales have actually increased in some areas during shutdown through online shopping and curb-side pick-up.

Sarah hewlett- trt 09"we have added a way better website to where people can order books.

Even if their not fulfilled here, they help our company."

As busy as wednesday has been..friday could be even busier for the store..as its bistro will also open up.

Sarah hewlett- trt 10"joseph beth has been here since 1986 in lexington.

It's a community spot, so it's been lovely to hear the feedback from customers about how excited they are to come back."

In lexington..austin miller..abc 36.

### the fayette mall is back open for business.... but shoppers need to be prepared for some changes.

Among the changes... a reduction in hours.... seating areas eliminated and workers wearing masks.

And, while the mall has reopened... not all of its retail stores will be open.

That' didn't deter one shopper we spoke with... who says he was at the mall to pick up a gift.

Actually birthday shopping for my girlfriend.

Trying to get that done cause ordering online is taking a while cause everybody having to order online.

The mall also says it's going through additional safety measures.

It says temperature checks will be performed on all mall management, security and janitorial staff at the start of each shift and high traffic areas will be frequently cleaned and sanitized.
