A chance encounter has turned into a lasting relationship between a SJPD officer and a local mom of two.

The mission of every police officer., so when a local officer crossed paths with a family facing a tough challenge, she didn't hesitate to answer the call.

But sometimes there are chance encounters on the job that make all the hard work worth it.

You get wrapped up in police work and every once in a while you come across something like this where you have the opportunity to help somebody out.officer ashley nagle of the st.

Joseph police department speaks of just such an encounter, meeting a fellow mom on one of her calls.

An encounter that left quite the impression.

The support that haley has and the strength that she shows with her daughters was really inspiring and i just felt the need and want just to help them in any way that i could.

Haley hunley is a mom of two, her youngest daughter blaine was diagnosed with ewing's sarcoma, a rare cancer that affects bones and their tissue.

There's no for cure blaine's condition, and her family says she doesn't have much time left.

We want her to be where she's comfortable, as we're getting ready to transition to hospiceblaine's family is focusing on spending as much quality time as they can with her.

They admit covid-19 has made that more difficult.we almost got her to go on a make a wish trip but it got cancelled because of the coronavirus.so officer nagle, with a little back up, stepped in to give the family another chance to be together ashley came to me and she told me all about blaine's story and asked if there's something we could do.

We organised just for them to come to the police station and see the police cars give them some gifts.

It may seem like a small gesture at first, but the impact left on everyone involved is anything but.what they don't realize is you know they've taught me or what i've learned from the experience.
