India on August 08 reported a spike of 61,537 coronavirus cases, and 933 deaths in the last 24 hours. Confirmed infections have gone up to 20,88,612 which includes 6,19,088 active cases. The death toll has risen to 42,518. Meanwhile, 14,27,005 people have beaten the invisible virus in the country, according to the data released by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. Indian Council of Medical Research said the country tested 5,98,778 samples for coronavirus on August 07. 2,33,87,171 samples have been tested as on August 07.
The Union Health Ministry on August 04 briefed the media in Delhi, over the current COVID-19 situation in nation. Speaking in press conference, Ministry of Health, Secretary, Rajesh Bhushan stated that more than 6.6 lakh COVID-19 tests have been conducted in last 24 hours in the nation. Adding on it, he said recovered cases are now double of the active cases in India. He said, "More than 2 crore COVID-19 tests have been conducted, including more than 6.6 lakh tests in the last 24 hours. Recovered cases are now double of the active cases. The case fatality rate is lowest since the first lockdown."
As Bihar is witnessing a spike in COVID-19 cases, a three-member team, including Health Ministry Joint Secretary Lav Agarwal, on July 19 arrived in Patna. Team will assess the COVID-19 situation in the state. Bihar has 9392 active cases of COVID-19 as of today. Bhagalpur, Munger, East Champaran are the worst affected areas.
Coronavirus cases in India have crossed over 2.8 lakh. The country witnessed the highest single-day spike of 9,996 more cases in last 24 hours. In a single day, as many as 357 deaths were reported making the total toll to 8102. Out of the total number of cases, 1,37,448 are active while 1,41,029 have been cured. In Maharashtra, coronavirus cases reached 94,041 including 46,086 active cases and 3,438 deaths which are highest in the country. Indian Council of Medical Research informed that there is no 'community transmission' of COVID-19 in India. Earlier on June 11, Lav Agarwal, Joint Secretary, Health Ministry, said that India's recovery rate is 49.21 per cent. A total of 52,13,140 samples have been tested in the country, including 1,51,808 in the last 24 hours, according to ICMR. One new case of COVID-19 reported in ITBP in the last 24 hours. Remdesivir, an antiviral drug and Tocilizumab, an immunomodulator, are being considered by the Union Health Ministry for 'restricted, emergency use' and on 'compassionate grounds' to treat severely ill COVID-19 patients.
