Utica police see increase in fireworks complaints

Utica police have seen an uptick in reports of fireworks over the weekend, and remind residents that illegal fireworks can result in misdemeanor charges.

Is cracking down on illegal fireworks.

If you've been complaining about the fireworks going off in your neighborhood, you're not alone.

Today utica police are telling us the department recieved over 50 complaint calls relating to illegal fireworks.

Police say that they try to respond to as many of the calls as they can, but police say by the time they get there, the fireworks have already gone off.

Police say that the department is already down 17 members as it is, and sometimes these calls take away from the more emergent calls that come in..

Unfortunately the more emergent calls should take priority over the fireworks calls but those are nuisance calls that we have to respond to those violations of the new york state pinot noir as well as local codes issues.

Also i think one of the more important issues is that it's a danger to the public in the street these people are not cleaning of the fireworks there's debris there's heart exploded ordinance things of that nature that also poses a threat in a danger to the people.

Police ask that if you do use fireworks to be considerate of your neighbors and their pets.

If caught using illegal fireworks, police say its a class b misdemeanor as wells as a number of city codes violations.
