United Way's Kylee Strough talks about her organization teaming up with Saint Joseph's Sports Commission for a virtual 5K called St.

Joe Strong.

C1 joining us tonight is kylie straw from the united way here to talk about st.

Joseph strong.

Kylie, tell us what this is.

>> st.

Joseph strong is a virtual race designed by the st.

Joseph sports commission to expend energy that also helps a cause at the same time.

And covid-19 release was the cause they selected.

They chose united way covid-19 relief fund to be the recipient of the race and sponsor proceeds.

>> that's wonderful.

I know that the covid-19 relief fund was just an idea that a community member had and you guys all got together and decided hey, we can do this.

We can make a difference.

So this race is virtual.

It's not like a regular race where y'all go to the same place.

Stand up and you run.

This one you can do it any time and any place is that right?

>> you can, you actually have a week to complete the race and submit your results via e-mail.

So we ask people to register, we would really like them to register this week because packet pick up is on friday.

So those who get registered before friday will get instructions on where to pick up the races, tee shirt and the treasured goodie bag.

My favorite part of any 5 k.

>> the tee shirt.

>> so we're asking people to register now and they can go to st.

Joseph united way.org to find a link or social media.

They can search st.

Joseph strong and it will pop up.

Register only and then complete the course of your choice june 27th through july 4th.

So, unlike a regular race, you don't have to worry if it's going to be 110 or pouring down rain, you get to pick the day and time that works for you.

If you want to jazz it up, pick family friends to be out there with you to remain distant of course.

It really is an idea of people away for people to get active together or in their own way on their own time.

And honestly when we started planning this back in may, we weren't sure what the end of june would look like.

It's a virtual race and people can make it what they want.

>> i love it kylie, what a great idea.

What does the money go for?

What is united way doing to help people?

>> the covid-19 relief fund exists to help those individuals and agencies.

So we have had a couple individuals who needed help because they found themselves in some immediate financial need and didn't qualify for programs like unemployment and things like that, that could help take care of the need in the interim.

It's also agencies by personal protective equipment, sanitation supplies, things like that.

So they could serve their clientele during this pandemic and do so safely for their staff and volunteers and their clients.

The funds still continue today and the way individuals can access or apply for help and actually through an agency in town.

We try to communicate with the non-profit providers and social service agencies that this fund is a resource that they can apply on their client's behalf.

364-1131.
