Black Therapists On How Black People Can Practice Self-Care

Allure spoke to six Black mental health therapists for tips on how Black people can take care of themselves during COVID, while also seeking justice for systemic racism and police brutality.

Their tips include: 1.

Activism: There are many ways to protest that doesn't necessarily require being in a protest.

This includes signing petitions, calling community representatives or having conversations.

Decide how you want to be active while seeking justice.

2.

Rest: Set a sleep schedule and remaining consistent with when you go to bed.

Don't feel guilty for resting more if you need to.

3.

Mindfulness: Do personal activities that are enjoyable and feel nourishing, whether it's listening to a podcast, gardening, or doing a home project.

4.

Process: Process your range of emotions in a way that feels safe to you Samara Toussaint, a licensed psychologist in Valley Stream says, "Honor your feelings.

Honor your anger.

Honor your frustration.

Honor your rage.

All your emotions are valid."
