The Petri dishes sat in an incubator for 48 hours.

Wearing a face mask has been debated*heavily over the months..

As many question how effective they really are.

Kezi 9 news reporter kennedy dendy went to a lab on monday to run her*own experiment, and tonight we have the results.

< dr: "we're back 48 hours later after coughing on the plates at the riverbend microbiology lab."

On monday, i conducted a simple experiment at the lab to find out how germs can cling to respiratory droplets both with and*without wearing a mask..*nats coughing today... we took the dishes out of the incubator to see what developed.

Dr: "this is a plate of growth media.

This was wearing a paper mask.

This is wearing a cloth mask."

Wipe dr: "when she coughed but didn't have a mask on, you can see the white blobs there that's the bacteria that came out of return when she coughed."

If you look closely, those dots*show us how the germs*escaped when i coughed.

But here's a real world example that dr. pelz shared with me.

Dr: "a gentleman early in the covid epidemic who flew from china all the way to toronto probably 15-20 hour flight had covid at the time, didn't know it, was coughing the whole way across the continent, but because he had a mask on, nobody else on the plant got infected."

A manager at the riverbend annex lab also conducted the experiment, in a slightly different manner..

And here are*her results... coming up in the six o clock hour, find out what else you need to know about how to protect those around you from becoming infected by any type of virus.
