10 o'clock.

In just a few weeks, students across madison county will be starting school virtually.

For some working parents, that will present a challenge.

I spoke with a tech company here in huntsville that says that says its doing what it can to help their employees who will have their kids at home for at least the first nine weeks of school.

Most days, james gatewood has the title of "senior director of information technology."

But when the pandemic hit back in march, he also took on a temporary title: teacher.

James gatewood, sr. director of information technology helping with calculus work while doing your day job is a very hard job to do.

Since huntsville city schools is going to be starting its year virtually, he's hoping his son and daughter can adapt while they're away from jemison high school.

James gatewood, sr. director of information technology just hoping that they understand what new education tools will be coming out, new curriculums. just hoping they can adapt to that.

With his kids and others being home for the first part of fall, companies like davidson technologies are doing their best to adapt.

Spokesperson meredith payne says they will do what they need to in order to keep their employees and their families safe.

Meredith payne, spokesperson, davidson technologies it's that same battle rhythm that we've been going at since march, is that davidson has a liberal telework agreement with our employees.

In addition to letting many work from home, payne says they're also taking steps to protect those who still come into the office.

Will robinson-smith one of the ways that davidson is helping is helping to keep its employees safe is that any meeting with more than ten people comes in here, in the big space meeting room in the west part of their campus...and it allows anyone who's working from home, and possibly watching over their kids, to do so safely while still being a part of the meeting in this real space.

And while gatewood does still come to work, captain america mask and all, he's grateful to be able to save the day at home with his kids when necessary.

James gatewood, sr. director of information technology it is a perk that you can never explain.

Being able to still, not have to worry about if you can get your job done while making sure that your kids are still staying in line for what they need to do from an education standpoint, you can't trade that.

Gatewood says he will have his kids go back to school, if classrooms reopen after nine weeks.

But he says he's glad to have the flexibility at work just in case his kids are still learning
