Mask mandate causing controversy, local business owner voices his concerns

Mandates for face masks are causing controversy nationwide.

Physical activity.

Statewide, some are for the mask mandate.

Others against it.

News 10's jordan kudisch wanted to hear from you at home... she's in our newsroom with what you're saying about the changes.

I reached out to top guns owner--steve ellis.

That's after i saw multiple posts on his social media "against" the new mandate.

I wanted to learn more... on why he disagreed with it.

Ellis told me..

He's open to others wearing one..

But doesn't agree with the fact that it's being mandated.

He believes..

As a local business owner..

That people should just "avoid" places that don't want to abide by the mandate.

Local law enforcement also took to social media..

That was to explain their take on the mandate.

Several agencies explained that they would not "fine" thos who chose not to wear a mask..

And other posts said "this is a public health issue..

Not a police issue."

"we have to hope that our law enforcement community is looking at any type of new law that's imposed and they do take it into consideration on whether or not they're violating a person's rights."

And late in the day on friday - indiana's governor walked back some of the face mask order.

Governor holcomb's office now says the executive order does *not* include criminal penalties.

Instead...health departments will be responsible for enforcing compliance through education.
