Watch: Amid Assam floods, two rhinos escape sanctuary in search of food

A rhino and her calf ventured out of the Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary in search of food.

The two rhinos were seen near the Morigaon range office roaming about looking for food.

A forest official said that it was due to excessive flooding and the unavailability of grassland in the sanctuary that the two rhinos have escaped from the sanctuary.

Wildlife has been badly affected by the floods in Assam which has left a large part of the sanctuary inundated.

Earlier, a rhino had been seen resting on the highway after escaping from the Kaziranga National Park.

Officials say that over 129 animals have died due to the flood situation in the state and many others had to be rescued to safety.

Over 56,71,018 people have been affected in 30 districts of Assam due to floods since May 22, the state government said.

Over 100 people have died due to floods and 615 relief camps have been set up for those affected.

NDRF and other relief and rescue agencies have been working on a war footing to help people affected by the floods.
