Teachers, families weigh in on new 4J reopening plan

Some teachers are hoping educators get creative, and some parents are urging families to dig in and do their research on what options districts are offering.

9 news.

We have new details about what education will look like for families and educators in the eugene 4j school district.

Yesterday 4j announced that learning will be conducted entirely*online for*longer than many may have thought.

Kezi 9 news reporter kennedy dendy is live in eugene to explain why they'll go online for weeks.

Kennedy?

Matt, renee- the reality is that leaders say it just not safe*enough to be back in the classroom.

Which is why students will be learning from home through at least december 7th.

The plan is for a hybrid model in the second trimester..

Which the district will decide on in mid november.

But that all depends on public health conditions.

And around 450 educators took part in a survey evaluating distance learning in the spring.

40% shared that they were concerned about the social and emotional wellbeing of their students.

And 33% said they need more*advanced training on serving students with different levels of access to online learning.

"i want every 4j student and 4j family and 4j parent out there and community members to know that those people who work in our school buildings we dearly and desperately love your student.

We love this community.

And we're going to do everything we can to make this fall.

It's never going to be normal, but we're going to do everything we can to make it the best opportunity we can.": and there may be some exceptions in the first trimester, for students with special education services or for g-e-d testing.

The option is still on the table of going*fully online with the eugene online academy.

A response is needed by august 10th.
