Police and private security clash with squatters after they were prevented from marching to Stellenbosch, near Cape Town.

Riot police stopped the group from leaving the Kayamandi township, they employed water cannons and used stun grenades to repel the protesters.

The protesters were pushed further into the township where further clashes took place.

The police were supported in the operation by the Red Ants Security Company.

Red Ants is a private security contractor hired by municipalities across the country to enforce eviction orders and prevent illegal land invasions.
