Their students back onto campus this weekend and into the classrooms today.and while the griffions are back in school... it looks a lot different than last semester.

Kq2's kilee thomas stopped by the university to speak with students about the changes and their first day jitters.

It's the first day back for missouri western and the griffins are masked up, walking to class.

Preparing for an unforgettable first day of school.

"today has been very interesting, very interesting."

Going to college in the middle of a pandemic looks a little different.

"yes.

I never thought that my official last first day would ever be like this.""i had a class at 8 a.m.

And everybody had the mask on.

The only time they took it off is when the professor was talking to us and so it was kinda different, but everybody can adjust."

Missouri western is welcoming just over 1,000 students back to campus this semester to ensure student safety they've made some some pretty big changes to what a college campus traditionally looks like.

The biggest change..

Face masks.

"i'm going to class here in about 10 minutes, so we'll see how that goes and everything.

If i can even understand my professor cause i don't know."

"yeah, it's been pretty weird.

It's hard to breathe with the mask on, so whenever you get outside it's good to take it off."

While students say the masks are an adjustment say they're happy with the university's overall covid-19 approach "yes, i feel safe.

We have a good quarantine policy.

If anyone has like symptoms, they all have to stay in their dorm.

If someone tests positive, they have to go home.

Everything should stay stable."

Covid-19 brought the spring semester to a halt students walking into the fall semester hope the pandemic leaves untouched "you know, it's always good to see friends that we haven't seen since march.

It's good to see all the people again and just be back in school.

We're just happy to be here."

"we just gotta work around all the guidelines, so we can still have a good semester."
