New information -- the high school football season is now underway.

The ardmore tigers were just one north alabama team to help kick-off the season.

The team took the field just hours after we learned nearly 40 ardmore high school students are quarantining due to possible coronavirus exposure.

We know 2 students and a staff member tested postive -- but the team still played.

Waay 31's max cohan was at the game and joins us live to tell us about some of the safety precautions districts are taking, max?

The alabama high school athletic association has left the decision making on many safety precautions up to the districts, which we saw tonight.

In tanner, the rattlers hosted the ardmore tigers -- a school that recently sent 38 students to quarantine due to positive coronavirus cases.

Canceling the game was never a thought.

The limestone county school had separate entrances, and asked people to wear masks and social distance when inside -- though the large ardmore crowd seemed to have some trouble keeping their distance.

Tanner's athletic director told me was nervous before the game.

"it's a little nerve wracking, just everyone's safety, that's a huge concern, all it would take is one person to cause an outbreak.

Hopefully the protocols we have in place will stop that but it's just a little nerve wracking."

The school did not take temperatures or set a limit on the crowd size - decisions pirtle says were made at a district level.
