Stronger Together rally held Saturday at Kopernik Park

Staffing reductions have led to putting patients at risk.

On saturday...local healthcare workers held a "stronger together" rally in utica to motivate people to create change within the local healthcare system.

Organizers say its been really difficult being a front line worker during the coronavirus pandemic...especiall y with recent layoffs that have taken place at mvhs and they want the local community to know about it.

They say recent actions by mohawk valley health system are putting patients at risk.

Mvhs vice president of marketing and communications caitlin mccan released a statement to news channel two...regarding the recent layoffs..saying 'the revenue recovery and restructuring plan' was created in direct response to the financial hit m-v- h-s, like most hospitals across the state and country, took from covid-19...and went on to say quote.... "this plan was put in place with patient safety at the forefront.

Reduc stafng was option d to the realignment of services and right-sizing the organization to current volumes which are only at 85 percent of what they are normally.

This plan does not negatively impact patient care.

If it did, we would never have implemented it no matter how much money would be saved."
