"* the fi day back for students looks a bit different from the norm.

This is the start of tom kirby's 14th year here at john adams middle school in mason city.

It's been 171 days since he last saw students ?

"* back n march 6th.

Coming to school ?

*- everyone's wearing masks full time ?

"* students are spaced ot far apart ?

"* students are to stay in their respective homerooms ?

"* and even lunches are eaten in the classroom.

With the year starting off differently ?

"* kirby tells me it's just like any other first "the kids are really quiet, because they're nervous and shy.

The teachers are sweating bullets because there's always something that comes up on the first day back, like 'ah, i gotta go to the copy machine!'

It's a typical first day back.

The only difference right in front of you is the masks."

There are no visitors allowed in the building right now ?

"* with wednesday being designated as a virtual learning day.
